In order to modernize the bilateral relations, India wishes to extend its strategic cooperation with South Korea into new fields including semiconductors, green hydrogen, and crucial and emerging technologies, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated on Wednesday.
Speaking alongside his colleague Cho Tae-yul, Jaishankar co-chaired the 10th India-South Korea Joint Commission Meeting (JCM).
Jaishankar stated in his introductory remarks that the bilateral relations were raised to a special strategic partnership in 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to South Korea.
It is imperative that we uphold that. With each passing year, we have become stronger and stronger. Our bilateral interactions, commerce, investments, defense, and scientific and technology collaboration have all steadily increased while maintaining the momentum in the established areas of cooperation, demonstrating that we have evolved into really significant partners for one another, the minister stated.
"We would be very much interested now in expanding into new areas, such as critical and emerging technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, human resource mobility, nuclear cooperation, supply chain resilience, etc to make our ties more contemporary," he stated.
He claimed that in international forums, the two countries saw a growing convergence of viewpoints.
"The focus on the Indo-Pacific region is good case to point, and we both have stakes and its stability, security and prosperity," he stated.
According to Jaishankar, he went into the joint panel full of hope and enthusiasm.
"I am aware of our great mutual affection. Translating knowledge into useful results is our issue," he remarked.
"Last year, our leaders convened twice, in New Delhi and Hiroshima. I believe their conversations have given us the direction we need to move ahead," he continued.
Additionally, he congratulated Cho on being named Foreign Minister in December.
"So let me offer my best wishes for your successful tenure," he said. On the first phase of his four-day tour to Japan and South Korea, Jaishankar is in Seoul.
It is anticipated that the JCM would thoroughly examine every aspect of bilateral cooperation and look at ways to make it stronger further. In addition, the visit would offer a chance for the two sides to discuss topics of common concern on regional and international platforms, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in New Delhi before to Jaishankar's arrival.
