Store all passwords in highly-encrypted database locked with single master password and/or key file

The problem with passwords is that they are too weak if you can remember them. You jeopardize security if you write them down or copy them, and you'll lose that piece of paper—we swear. By making it simple to use strong passwords without committing them to memory or paper, password managers can help you keep your computer safe. Passwords are stored in encrypted database files by KeePass Password Safe, which can only be opened with a master password, key file, or both. It is freeware that is open-source and compatible with Windows 98 through Windows 7.

The primary user interface of KeePass Password Safe is a small, straightforward dialog with a left-hand list view and a main window that shows the following information: Title, User Name, Password, URL, and Notes. We made eye contact.We selected File/New, gave our database file a name, and saved it so we could keep our passwords in it. This prompted the Create Composite Master Key wizard, where we had to input our Master password and Key file or provider twice. Next, using a tabbed properties box, we were able to adjust the parameters for our password database, including Security levels, Templates, and Compression settings. After we were done, we were able to create and manage Groups of passwords for Windows, Network, Internet, eMail, and Homebanking under the General category, which also included our master password. The next step is to use a tabbed wizard to add Entries, which are actual stored passwords. This wizard contains many more choices than most users will need, like file attachments and string fields. 

, and even auto-type two-channel obfuscation (Google it). Entries can be used in a variety of ways, such as drag-and-drop, copying to the Clipboard, and opening URLs straight from the interface. The basic setup of KeePass Password Safe was finished by saving our database, but it also has sophisticated features including TAN entries, command-line parameters, and plug-ins.

To make it function, just like any password manager, you'll need to break some bad habits. You can get help with that once KeePass Password Safe is operational. Like your passwords, it requires some maintenance and is not a set-and-forget tool, even while it makes creating strong passwords and storing them safely simple.
