Waterfox (64-Bit)

Waterfox is a 64-bit version of Firefox.

A 64-bit version of Firefox is called Waterfox. The Firefox source code was altered by the browser's developers especially for computers running 64-bit Windows versions. Software optimized for 64-bit Windows versions can benefit from 64-bit systems' better RAM and processor performance as well as increased stability. To differentiate Waterfox from Firefox and other Firefox-based Web browsers, it goes beyond simply adapting Mozilla's source code for 64-bit Windows. It also makes use of various special adjustments to take advantage of 64-bit computers' speed. Waterfox's mission is speed, as stated on their website. We could tell with just a few quick trips to familiar sites that Waterfox is fast, so we visited some of our favorite browser speed test sites to see how it stacks up against the competition, including Firefox and our current default, Chrome. For the most revealing results, we threw Peacekeeper's HTML5 torture test at each, pitting Waterfox against the site's Chrome benchmark and our own copy of Chrome. We visited some of our favorite browser speed test sites to check how Waterfox compares against the competition, including Firefox and our current default, Chrome. After just a few quick excursions to well-known websites, we were able to determine that Waterfox is fast. We subjected each to Peacekeeper's HTML5 torture test, which pitted Waterfox against both our own copy of Chrome and the website's Chrome benchmark, in order to obtain the most illuminating findings.Through a series of progressively difficult tests that took about five minutes to complete, this online benchmarking tool helps to distinguish between gaming computers and smartphones. In terms of speed and HTML5 rendering power, Waterfox outperformed Firefox but not Chrome; however, the differences were not significant enough to determine a winner. Results from CNET's Bandwidth Meter's raw speed testing were far closer. Though Waterfox is also quick, Chrome maintained its advantage. It "feels" quick subjectively, which may be one benefit of 64-bit processing. Either way, we think Waterfox is great. Try Waterfox if you use 64-bit Windows and prefer Firefox.
